Goals and Objectives
The goal of Drug Safety and Effectiveness Cross-Disciplinary Training (DSECT) Program is to provide a training environment for future scientists in Canada to produce new knowledge related to the generation and use of safe and effective medications. This program is focused on integrative thinking within a learning environment that spans multiple scientific domains.
The main program objectives are to:
- Bridge scientific domains related to drug discovery, effectiveness and safety research by linking complementary disciplines at both trainee and mentor level
- Provide a rich learning environment that is content and research methods focused
- Increase the use of cross-domain approaches
- Provide tangible opportunities for trainees to develop collaborative research skills
- Provide direct opportunities for trainees to learn and practice research skills
- Incorporate knowledge translation learning and activities at all stages of the training program
