BIOSCIENCES
The Mission Statement
The mission of the Biosciences domain is to develop individuals who, upon graduation, have the ability to develop, design and interpret bioscience research questions and methodologies in order to solve complex problems in drug safety and effectiveness research. These individuals will be able to participate in independent and collaborative research and teaching of biosciences for improvement of health in Canada and throughout the world.
A Description of the Bioscience Domain
The Biosciences domain aims to provide trainees with the skills needed to conduct research into bioscience topics including drug metabolism, pharmacogenetics, molecular pharmacology and biotherapeutics. As well, trainees learn how to design, conduct and interpret experiments that address important questions related to drug safety and effectiveness. Overall the bioscience domain provides trainees with the skills to effectively teach biosciences and to provide leadership as bioscience collaborators in laboratories, and clinical and health settings.
How Bioscience links to drug safety and effectiveness research and the implications for training in this field…
The Biosciences domain will expose trainees to bioscience concepts in drug safety and effectiveness research including molecular pharmacology, pharmacogenetics, biotherapeutics and other realms of biosciences. This domain addresses the importance of emerging drugs and drug choices based on an individual’s genetic profile. Working on problems with researchers from other domains, we hope that graduates focusing on biosciences will possess the following skills:
